ESM Technologies (Carthage, MO) has received self-affirmed Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status for its patented joint health ingredient, NEM (natural eggshell membrane).
NEM naturally contains glycosaminoglycans including chondroitin, hyaluronic acid, and collagen, which are currently marketed as stand-alone joint health ingredients.
The ingredient is currently on the market for human and pet health, and the GRAS status now qualifies the ingredient for use in fruit and vegetable juices, baked goods, soft candy, and snack foods, among other food and beverage categories. An allowable daily intake has been established at 14 g per day.
The company pledges that its ingredient is both traceable and sustainable by using egg shells that would otherwise go to land fills. To learn more about the ingredient, visit booth #26035 at the upcoming SupplySide West show.
