CranNaturelle cranberry powder may be a more effective prebiotic for Sabinsa's LactoSpore than commonly used prebiotics such as fructooligosachharides (FOS).
Fruit d’Or Nutraceuticals (Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, QC, Canada) and Sabinsa Corp. (East Windsor, NJ) have combined their cranberry and probiotic ingredients, respectively, to create a patent-pending ingredient that benefits digestive health. According to the companies, research shows that Fruit d’Or’s CranNaturelle cranberry powder serves as an effective prebiotic food source for Sabinsa’s LactoSpore probiotic to thrive.
“Cranberry seed powder in this combination showed remarkable potential as a prebiotic food for growth of LactoSpore compared to commonly used prebiotics such as fructooligosachharides (FOS),” said Shaheen Majeed, Sabinsa’s marketing director, in a press release. LactoSpore is a shelf-stable Bacillus coagulans probiotic ingredient.
Dubbed LactoCran, the new symbiotic blend can be used in food, beverages, and dietary supplements, the companies say.
“We’re excited to learn about this level of LactoSpore’s growth activity using our cranberry seed powder,” added Stephen Lukawski, Fruit d’Or’s director of business development and sales. “We know that our cranberry seed powder contains over 50% fiber and as much as 25% natural protein; therefore, this new combination could be the complete symbiotic solution for gut health and beyond.”
